„This work is a small piece for the dancer Hannah Young (Canada). As a starting point we took the the theme of unnatural masculinity and the power that leads to the powerlessness. We reflected on the topic of masculinity in the world and on the body, pathos and territoriality, which drive everyone into a corner, and bring one to exhaustion.“

In Imminence, senzenberger|rieck explore the transformative potential of slowness by immersing themselves into four-hour-long states of slow motion. In the uncertainty of perhaps never arriving, they create a dance that grinds in synchronicity and illuminates moments of power and intimacy.

„Mein Projekt interagiert mit verschiedenen Technologien wie Programmierung, 3D Visualisierungen und VR. Im digitalen sowie Analogen Raum. Für diese Woche im Freiraum werde ich meine Choreographie mit Hilfe eines Motion-Capture-Anzugs archivieren.“

Rehearsals for the project „Anybody else to tell us“ at FREIRAUM.
In dem Sound-Dance-Theaterstück „Anybody else to tell us“ interagieren die Tänzerin Hsiao-Ting Lee und der Musiker Pablo Liebhaber in einer eigenwilligen Verbindung von zeitgenössischem Tanztheater, instrumentaler Live-Musik und Field Recording. Sie eröffnen einen Raum zwischen Realität und Imagination und erschaffen eine Figur, die darin gefangen ist, zwischen diesen äußeren und inneren Zuständen zu schweifen. „Anybody else to tell us“ errichtet einen poetischen und atmosphärischen Ort aus der spielerischen und phantasievollen Kraft der Darsteller und lädt das Publikum dazu ein, über eine gegenwärtige Realitätsverschiebung zu reflektieren, die durch das Leben in einer zunehmend virtuell-digitalen Welt entsteht.

„In Hark! we explore love and interest in baroque music. With singing bodies, building a relationship with the audience, turning sound into an experience and allowing for immersion into the music. You hear what you see and see what you hear. The singing leaves traces in space, traces of sonorous bodies. Together with musicians Peter Rubel and Nathan Bontrager we propose a common understanding of movement and sound.“

„Nothing forever explores grief, loss and the sharable dimension of mourning. In FREIRAUM we researched movement material generated through diving into an emotional body of loss, gestures of consolation, actions that cross the boundary between individual grieving and social mourning, giving shape to the fragile continuum between presence & absence.“

Rehearsals for the project „TIRANA“ at FREIRAUM.
„TIRANA is an immersive sound choreography that explores singing physicalities and the limits of the female voice, both in pitch and volume. The work addresses gender issues through the production and interpretation of sound. Inspiration is gathered from Portuguese folk songs and female polyphonic repertoire, which are traditionally sung in a loud and expansive manner and address themes of female labour, motherhood and violence. Sound artist, Inês Tartaruga Água, created an instrument for the work, bringing vast attention to the haptic nature of sound and the relationship of different resonant bodies in space. By creating movement and sound landscapes, we search for spaces in between, from breath to song.“

„Wir beschäftigen uns mit der Frage wie Material unseren Alltag und unser gesellschaftliches Miteinander beeinflusst. Durch die Perspektive des New Materialisms untersuchen wir, inwieweit wir unsere Beziehung zu Material neu aushandeln können. Der Fokus in unserer Arbeit im Freiraum ist die Frage nach den gesellschaftlichen und dinglichen Konsequenzen des vermeintlichen Herrenrades.“

Waltraud900 ist ein internationales Künstlerinnen-Kollektiv, bestehend aus der Choreografin und Tänzerin Phaedra Pisimisi, der Performerin und Regisseurin Bianca Künzel, der Ausstatterin Ria Papadopoulou und der Dramaturgin Dorle Trachternach, unterstützt von der Autorin Matin Soofipour Omam.

Am Wochenende vom 20.- 22. Mai, wurde der FREIRAUM in Düsseldorf zum Veranstaltungsort des Kongress‘ „Aufteilung des Sinnlichen: (Medien) Ästhetik und Politik in der Gegenwart“ der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Fachbereich Medien- und Kulturwissenschaft), organisiert von Jun. Prof. Maren Butte und Diana Kasper.

MARLIN DE HAAN works at the interface between performance and fine arts. Her projects focus on the tensions between bodies and objects in space; they address the possibilities and limits of action, different forms of representation and narration. Marlin de Haan works as a director in theatre, film and performance. She also designs stages and realises exhibitions as well as participatory / interactive art events.

„We are working on self empowerment of the female body in media. Especially in the fashion industry. The performative images we are going to create are about the power of looking, and being looked at. About giving an image and being in charge of it. The performers we are working with are having non conventional body forms and due that make a statement against the normative forms of bodies displayed in media and society.“
