Workshop with Lois Alexander

One day after her solo performance YEYE at Fabrik Heeder, the dancer and choreographer Lois Alexander invites all interested dancers, choreographers and actors from the field of independent performing arts to a workshop at FREIRAUM and provides insights into her choreographic process. YEYE deals with the consequences of slavery and its reverberations in our present and searches for ways of healing, but at the same time also tests strategies of refusal and resistance. What are the temporalities of a racialized body marked by visible and invisible wounds?

In her workshop, Lois Alexander invites us to consider the relationship between healing, rest, and resilience and their effects on the body. Based on this questioning, the individual language of movement will be explored together. (Working) Tools will be sought to develop one’s own authorship, to write one’s own dance language. There will be the possibility to integrate first insights through solo work and in relation to the other participants as well as to create diverse constellations of dance and choreography.

Dance experience is useful for participation in the workshop, but not necessary.

The workshop will be held in English. It will end with a dinner until 4 pm.
