Digitale Agora

Since 2020, the Ben J. Riepe team has been working on the idea of a “FREIRAUM digital” as a virtual counterpart to the analog FREIRAUM and was also supported by the IMPULSE Academy in its initial conceptual considerations. In may 2022 we announce that our new FREIRAUM website went online. In addition to a new website, a digital workspace was created as the core content of the website.  This “Digital Agora” project is also supported by the RECONNECT funding program at the federal level.

The digital agora has opened – now it’s up to you: Make this space your own! Exhibit your own work, book the space for virtual meetings or enter anytime to view the artworks >>

If you are interested in the digital agora, you are welcome to request it for yourself or your group.

Digital Agora

The FREIRAUM at its Engelbertstraße location receives digital augmentation!

On March 1st, 2023, the “Digital Agora” opened its virtual doors. With support granted by TANZPAKT RECONNECT, the “Digital Agora” offers an interactive, virtual platform for work, exhibition, and presentation. Embedded into a Gather.town workspace, individual conceptions, work drafts and (work in progress) projects may reach visibility here.

The idea of a “Digital Agora” as virtual space for collaboration and encounter emerged against the backdrop of the two great crises of our time – the pandemic as well as the climate crisis –, which both demand a permanent restructuring of our work processes, both presently as well as in the longer term. The Gather.town workspace allows artists and art-focused scientists to connect across local boundaries – during informal encounters, official as well as internal showings, and in artistic cooperation. Artist Hanna Noh was responsible for the visual and conceptual creation of the Gather.town workspace. Gather.town is an interactive virtual platform enabling exchange via proximity chat and video chat. It also enables the integration of various additional media such as video, sound, photography, and external websites.

Archival Practice for Artists

May, 18, 6 pm

How can intermediate states, results, sketches, thoughts and conceptual constructs be mapped in the ephemeral arts? How can research and networks become visible and tangible? How can the FREIRAUM idea of interdisciplinary cooperation – beyond the real space – work in the digital? How can we sustainably strengthen a global community and create new networks? In the FREIRAUM Salon, on Wednesday, 18.5. on digital archive practices for artists, we have invited Paula Löffler and Birk Schindler from nota e.V. to discuss these questions.
