The monthly FREIRAUM Salons serve the open exchange and interdisciplinary networking of the local and national scene. Experts from a wide range of genres meet in an informal setting at the Düsseldorf premises. If analog contacts are difficult due to the pandemic, the salons are offered digitally. The content of the Salons changes between specific topics or questions or rather open get-togethers networking formats. The current artistic research and activities of the company, but also of the FREIRAUM community, can be reflected in the content of the salons. A new space of discourse opens up between peer reviews, small presentations, networking events of the scene or invited expert talks.

Ben J. Riepe Showing: MEDO/ANGST – The Ritual (Recreation 2024)

In the first week of September we invite you to the showing of the production MEDO/ANGST – The Ritual (Recreation 2024), which will be touring Colombia with the Ben J. Riepe team at the end of September!
Instilling and stoking fear is the preferred instrument of power employed by the New Right – in Germany as well as in more and more nations across the globe. Simultaneously, fear is growing among the groups and individuals who are marked out as non-conforming – e.g. queers or BIPoC – they dread reprisal, or even have to endure it already on a daily basis. Fear impregnates and gives birth to itself in an apparently infinite cycle. MEDO/ANGST, first created against the backdrop of Jair Bolsonaro’s 2018 election to government in Brazil, therefore remains highly topical, for the fear of “the Other” is a mounting phenomenon of our times.
Five years after the premiere, Ben J. Riepe is once again working with the concept and performance team Sebastião Abreu, Sauane Costa, Aaron Samuel Davis, Thor Galileo, Igor Meneses Sousa (Andras), Tyshea Suggs and Maria Bunita on MEDO/ANGST – The Ritual (Recreation 2024) – we warmly invite you to the showing!
After the showing (approx. 70 minutes), the evening ends at a long table in the FREIRAUM, where we invite all guests to a freshly cooked vegetarian dinner.
