The monthly FREIRAUM Salons serve the open exchange and interdisciplinary networking of the local and national scene. Experts from a wide range of genres meet in an informal setting at the Düsseldorf premises. If analog contacts are difficult due to the pandemic, the salons are offered digitally. The content of the Salons changes between specific topics or questions or rather open get-togethers networking formats. The current artistic research and activities of the company, but also of the FREIRAUM community, can be reflected in the content of the salons. A new space of discourse opens up between peer reviews, small presentations, networking events of the scene or invited expert talks.

Verena Brakonier – Class Matters
Input & Workshop

Supported by various scholarships and residencies at PACT Zollverein, Verena has been researching the topic of classism, discrimination based on class origin and class affiliation since 2019. She gives anti-classism workshops and invites working class/poor artists to exchange ideas in her monthly online meeting “Anonyme Arbeiter*innenkinder”. Her short film “Hands”, realized in 2021 together with Greta Granderath and Jivan Frenster, explores the question of whether origin and class affiliation can be read from the hands and has already been shown at various festivals and exhibitions, including Berlinische Galerie and BAUHAUS Archiv.

Verena will give us an interactive insight into her work.
